Where Yumion’s prices come from
A price in Yumion is something someone saw: a product, a price, a store and a time. Every price you see says where it came from and how old it is.

Shelf tags
Most prices come from shoppers scanning the shelf tag under a product: the price, the unit price and any sale. That price is saved for that store, so the next shopper there sees it too. Your scans keep prices fresh for everyone.
Open Prices
Yumion also reads Open Prices, the open database of prices that its contributors have seen in stores. Each one is kept with its store and date, like a scan.
Online prices
Some prices come from a store’s website. They are labeled online, because the price on the shelf can be different.
Per unit and per serving
Prices are compared per ounce, per fluid ounce or per item, the way US shelf tags show them, so a big box and a small one compare fairly. With your household set up, Yumion also works out the price per serving for the people you feed.
Old and odd prices
A price that is getting old is marked so you can doubt it. A price more than three times what the product usually costs in your area is held for review instead of shown, and so is a shelf tag whose numbers don’t agree with each other.
Nearby
When the same product was seen for less at a store near you, the card says how much cheaper, and where.
