Questions and answers

What Yumion does, what it costs, and what it keeps.

What is Yumion?
An iPhone app for the weekly shop. Scan a barcode or a shelf tag and you get one card: the price here and at stores nearby, and a health score from 0 to 100 with its reasons, per serving for the people you cook for.
Is Yumion free?
Scanning is free for 5 products a day, no account needed. Yumion Plus adds unlimited scanning, a shared household with guests, Oni and saved recipes, and starts with a free week. Plus is bought through the App Store.
Do I need an account?
Not to scan. You sign in with Apple, and only with Apple, when you want to share your household, invite guests or get Plus.
Which stores does it work at?
Stores across the US: supermarkets, warehouse clubs, discount grocers, corner stores. Prices come from shoppers’ shelf-tag scans and from Open Prices, and every price says which store and when.
How is the health score worked out?
60% nutrition (the Nutri-Score points), 30% additives and 10% organic, with caps for high-risk additives and the lowest nutrition band. The full method is on the health score page.
Does it handle allergies and diets?
Yes. Add who you cook for, with any diets and allergies, and Yumion flags a product for the person who can’t have it. An allergy never changes the score.
What is Oni?
Oni is the onion in the middle of the app. Tell it who you’re cooking for or what’s in the fridge and it finds something good to make. What a recipe needs goes on your cart, ready to scan at the store.
Does Yumion sell my data?
No. There are no ads, and we don’t sell your data or share it with advertisers or data brokers. You can delete your account from inside the app.
Is there an Android app?
Not yet. Yumion is for iPhone.
When can I get it?
Yumion is coming soon to the App Store. Write to hello@yumion.app and we’ll tell you the day it’s out.
